Tyde Tate Kitchen

Tyde Tate Kitchen

Located in the Sylvan Building at historic South Downtown’s Hotel Row, this project involved the tenant buildout of a family-owned and operated Thai restaurant, Tyde Tate Kitchen. Originally constructed in 1908, the structure was meticulously restored and adapted as a mixed-use office and retail building by Newport RE as part of their large downtown redevelopment effort. As an advocate for small, locally owned businesses and with a passion for historic preservation, we felt our team at TAP Design Group was the perfect fit for this venture.

Working closely alongside Newport and TTK owners, our team crafted a design that effectively incorporates the numerous components needed to run a successful food establishment. From the inclusion of intimate spaces for customers to drink and dine, to the integral mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems required to operate a full kitchen, our design joins the owner’s technical requirements with Newport’s desire to keep the original architecture of the building largely unchanged. The group’s collaboration and our team’s experience with food industry clients both largely contributed to the project’s success.

A shared desire to celebrate the building’s historical nature coupled with our team’s extensive knowledge of local health and building codes allowed for efficient selection of materials, finishes, and coordination of kitchen equipment. The final result that yielded is the dramatic transformation of a whitebox tenant space into the comforting atmosphere customers experience today as Tyde Tate Kitchen.
